ARE Liguria is a joint-stock company established in 1996 within the framework of the EU PERU Programme:"Creation of region on sustainable development.
Since 1997 the Agency has been member of FEDARENE (European net-work of energy agencies) as well as part of the steering committee of the RENAEL, the national network of energy agencies (since 1999). The institutional aim of the Regional Energy Agency is the promotion of energy saving policies, the exploitation of renewable energy sources and the rational use of energy within Liguria Region. ARE Liguria works in the institutional field, supporting the regional authority and other local administrations to elaborate and implement energy plans, promoting the local transposition of laws, founding a consortium to jointly buy electricity, offering training on energy matters as much as information and evaluations on new fuels and technologies. ARE has also elaborated feasibility studies applying energy efficiency rules according to the EU directive. Within the framework of the Regional Energy Plan, ARE Liguria is implementing pilot projects aiming at promoting renewable sources of energy (mainly biomass heating and solar panels), energy saving in the civil sector, energy efficiency in companies and energy-awareness in many primary, middle and secondary schools.
ARE is also working hard at international level, taking part in many EU projects dealing with European energy policy priorities, such as buildings and communities certification, energy management in the health system, promotion of new contractual and management models, training and education, promotion of renewable communities. ARE, in particular, has taken part in the ALTENER FEE-project, concluded in 2003, which has represented the occasion to come into contacts with the schools in the region, to acquire the needed experience to work with children and teachers and to develop specific tools.

Among its various activities aimed at spreading the use of RES and RUE, EALP, in the latest years gained much experience in the field of energy-environmental education in primary and secondary schools, first starting with local pilot projects (year 2000/2001) and then with the participation as partner to the FEE project in the framework of ALTENER (year 2002/2003). This experience was also exploited for the realisation of other local projects (partly financed by local Governmental-regional-provincial funds). Furthermore EALP has become one of the training agency certified by the Regional Administration and has recently implemented the quality system (ISO 9001:2000 vision) for training, information and education.
